240 Series Wilwood Adapter Kits
We are pleased to finally offer Wilwood big brake kits to the 240 series owners. These kits are geared towards the enthusiast who feels the need for something more than what the stock brakes can offer. The 240 kits will include caliper brackets, rotor hats and the necessary hardware to mount them, including replacement brake lines and fittings. The buyer will be responsible for purchasing the calipers, the rotors and the rotor bolts.
The front kit will utilize Wilwood’s Forged Billet Superlite calipers and whichever 12.19” X 1.25” rotor the buyer chooses. Wilwood offers 4 different rotors of this dimension with the necessary 8 X 7” mounting bolt pattern. Our recommendation is the Ultralite 32 Curved Vane Rotor as it is the least expensive. We also recommend using 1.38” pistons in the calipers as it closely replicates the stock system configuration when used in conjunction with the 12.19” rotors. Some have questioned the use of this piston size suggesting it is not an upgrade. This kit, in its recommended configuration, does not increase hydraulic advantage and therefore does not upset the front-rear brake bias, should the buyer choose not to upgrade the rear brakes. The advantage is the increased thermal mass and therefore the increased ability to absorb and dissipate heat. Additionally, there are a variety of brake pad compounds available from all-out race compounds to mild street compounds. Unlike the stock brakes, these will not fade, no matter how hard you try.
The rear kits will utilize the same diameter rotors as the fronts but in a 0.81”thickness and an 8 X 7.62” mounting bolt pattern. Wilwood currently has 3 choices in this configuration. We recommend the Ultralite HP32 Vane rotor (160-5844) as it is the least expensive option. The caliper is changed as well to Wilwood’s Narrow Dynapro lug mount. The recommended caliper is the 120-9724 which has 1.12” pistons. Again, this is the caliper we recommend. The customer always has the choice to go to a larger piston size.
